That’s a Wrap!

The summer is coming to a close and we wanted to congratulate all of our SSDI and VVDI students on their hard work and beautiful dancing.

Here are a few highlights from each program:

SSDI students were inspired at several Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC) performances featuring the New York City Ballet. The students saw George Balanchine’s Stars and Stripes; Fearful Symmetries; SPAC premiere, The Times Are Racing; Tschaikovsky and George Balanchine’s Allegro Brillante; George Balanchine’s Tarantella; Tschaikovsky and George Balanchine’s Swan Lake; and Stravinsky and George Balanchine’s Stravinsky Violin Concerto. The final performances for SSDI students included Jerome Robbins’ Dances at a Gathering
and The Concert.

In addition, our SSDI students were presented with partnering classes taught by New York City Ballet principal dancer Ask LeCour featuring men from the ballet company for partners, professional talks with faculty members and former principal dancers with Miami City Ballet, Iliana Lopez and Franklin Gamero, and a professional talk with a physical therapist on injury prevention and taking care of a dancer’s body.

At VVDI, the students attended several performances at the Vail Dance Festival including Opening Night featuring 2017 Artist-In-Residence Michelle Dorrance; American Dance Classics, which highlighted Jerome Robbins’ acclaimed 1944 debut ballet, Fancy Free and Colorado Ballet in George Balanchine’s first American ballet masterpiece Serenade; and Up Close: Jerome Robbins, which included excerpts from Dances at a GatheringThe CageAfternoon of a Faun and the Leonard Bernstein collaborations West Side Story and Fancy Free.  At the Festival’s International Evenings of Dance, the students were delighted with performances by Misty Copeland and Marcelo Gomes, and at Now Premieres, we helped the Festival celebrate today’s women choreographers with a collection of new works.

At both programs, our students had the privilege of seeing an exclusive film screening of Wendy Whelan’s Restless Creature and participating in a Master Class with New York City Ballet principal dancer Daniel Ulbricht. In addition, at VVDI, the students had the opportunity to take a Master Class with New York City Ballet principal dancer Tiler Peck.

We wish all of our students a wonderful new school year and look forward to seeing you again during audition season!
